August 11th, 2018

If you are a web development professional you need to be aware of what determines a company’s salary package in order to target which companies offer the best compensation and to make sure you have the requirements to get the top offers. In today’s world web developers are shaping what the future of electronic media will look like and their compensation packages should match the level of skill this job requires.

Salary packages usually range from $35-100,000 per year, depending upon the experience and skill. Those newly graduated with little experience other than school projects can usually expect to earn approximately $35-40,000 per year. The beginning web developer can expect to maintain and administer web pages for minor jobs and to work under more senior developers, helping them with their larger projects. After gaining a few years of experience, the salary packages can jump to $50-60,000 per year. At this next level the developer is expected to work on medium to large jobs and may or may not have some assistance on projects. The senior programmers earn between $70-90,000, and some extremely skilled developers can to above $100,000 per year. These professionals work on larger development projects and will usually have junior developers working under them.

The location of the job is also an influence on the salary offered. Large metropolitan areas have more firms and can offer a higher salary. Boston, New York, and Los Angeles will be able to offer a larger salary than places such as Kearney, Nebraska, or Austin, Texas. You must take into account, though, the cost of living in the area where the job is located. Many smaller towns are considerably less expensive to live in. Also, a programmer’s educational background, the level of proficiency in several programming languages, and the overall proficiency in the web development process will have a large impact on the salary offered. A Bachelor’s degree in a field such as Computer Science, Computer Programming, or Computer Engineering from a top-notch school will get you a more lucrative salary package. A Master’s degree will increase the salary package by approximately $15,000 per year.

Some web developers prefer to work on their own from their home computers. These programmers are usually limited to small contracts that can be completed quickly. The programmers are usually paid on an hourly basis. This can work into a full-time job or be a part-time, after hours thing. Working from home has the benefits of being able to schedule at your convenience and decreasing your commute to one staircase. However, you are not guaranteed work and will have to be in charge of your own marketing and finding jobs.

The internet is constantly growing and changing, therefore the demand for competent web developers will also grow. It is an emerging field that can be a wonderful career path for those able to master the complexities of the electronic world. The stories of self-taught web developers, however, are becoming more and more rare. Find a reputable school and get some serious training in this field. The more education you have, the more you can command one of the top salaries in the field.

Why Hire a Web Developer for Your Project?

Professional Web Developers are Specialists

Occasionally when I am contacting small businesses to generate new customers, I run on to a business owner that tells me that they had a friend or a family member build their website for them. And as you can imagine, I am curious to learn more. So, I’ll listen closely as the individual relates to me the great deal they got on the labor of the site. I’ll even ask what the web address is and, if possible, find out what it is they like most about their website. Often times, it is the price they remember over everything else.

Now there is nothing wrong with having a friend or a family member build a website for your small business, just as there is nothing wrong with having a friend or family member work on your home. However, there are nearly always benefits to having a professional do the work, whether it is your home, or your website. For example, you might let your nephew paint the kitchen, but would you let your neighbor, the doctor rewire it? Probably not. Why? Because he is not a professional electrician. Even if he can do it, he doesn’t do it regularly. Clearly, the project and the importance are keys in your decision. So why would the virtual home for your business be any different?

Nearly every single time I view the “someone I know built mine” websites I see one or more indications that the person was not a web developer or a web professional. Not always mind you, but just about every single time there are clues to that effect.

The advantages of hiring a professional are long-term and sometimes not easily seen. But rest assured, there are advantages.

Advantages of Professional Development

Often times, I’ll get new clients that have one or more aspects of a web presence, but either they do not have the site on the Internet yet, or they have a website but cannot find it in the search engines. This is because there are many aspects to getting your business on the Internet. Some of the biggies include:

  • Having a place for it
  • Having an address for it
  • Helping people find it

All of which, have different specifics to consider in themselves. When you hire a professional web developer, these facets of your online marketing can be simplified or combined. Just like a professional electrician knows what gauge of wire is necessary and has the right tools and knowledge to simply do the work, so too a web designer that is a professional will have what it takes to keep it simple but do it right.

Perhaps the most important reason to hire a professional for your web development project is that you want it done right. Just like a bad wiring job can cost you more down the road, a poorly built website can cost more for you fix in the long run. By hiring a web development specialist to build your site you’ll be able to find your business online, you’ll pay less over the long-term for edits and changes, and your business will grow from the exposure you receive via the Internet.

The Role of Web Development In the IT Industry Evolution

August 9th, 2018

When the Internet was introduced to the public in the beginning of the 1990s, no one could imagine how it would change our life in about 15 years. At first it was just visiting friends’ and acquaintances’ pages, short messaging, some minor advertizing. And then web development came to improve the situation. When the first browser was created, people felt that their possibilities had broadened. The easy sharing of multimedia files brought communication to a new higher level.

The evolution of websites and online services enabled people not only using the Internet access for leisure but for work and education as well. In the mid-1990s e-commerce appeared. Soon people realized it is much better to go shopping online without leaving their houses. This was the first big innovation that web development technologies introduced to the society. The initial success of e-commerce was so dramatic that this market soon even became overloaded with proposition.

In the 2000s online forums and wiki pages became much popular among people interested in intense knowledge exchange. Interactive process made online communication quite similar to real one. After social networks were developed, the online socialization became even easier. Modern web development technologies allow easy and real-time sharing of all data types and thus almost completely diminish the problem of long distance between communicators.

By the end of 2000s the progress went even further. Doing business online or being employed online is widespread now. Today a skilled and trusted professional can easily work inside a remote web development team without any troubles with schedule organization and information sharing. Such an approach is really effective – don’t you agree? Imagine a project manager who is sitting in a cafĂ© in Berlin and having a Skype meeting with two other team members, one of which is occupying a hotel room in Stockholm and another one is working from his flat in Kiev.

What are the advantages of this type of teamwork organization? Well, you are avoiding extra expenditures for office space, working places installation, transportation and other things. Nowadays more and more company owners choose the scheme of remote employment for their projects. Especially when collaborators from remote locations are hired in order to lower projects costs.

As we can see, web development technologies made possible to outsource projects. Now the outsourcing really drives the web development industry ahead. More and more web applications projects owned by companies from Western Europe and North America are outsourced to foreign contributors.

During the 2000s China and India were main players in the world outsourcing market. But gradually the situation changed. The outbreak of financial crisis in 2008/2009 resulted in significant growth of demand for outsourcing services as project owners were anxious to cut costs as much as possible. Besides they tried to find other good places. As a result, Eastern European countries came forward. Local companies provide their clients with relatively high quality-price ratio which makes this region a very attractive place.

Web development technologies are taking more and more important place in our daily life. Their further evolution will surely bring more fascinating changes to the society. Information is going to be the most valuable resource in the future. And people all over the world will always need more improved tools for data sharing and analysis. That means more work for web development professionals.
